Study on Replaceability

Artificial intelligence could replace a large part of human labour in the near future. That is the scenario. But what role will humans play when alienation from their own work reaches this new level? In evidence-based science, a ‘study’ is a method of testing a hypothesis under precisely defined conditions. In the visual arts, a ‘study’ refers to preliminary work or preliminary sketches for a later work, in which all the essential characteristics of an object are to be captured. The ‘Studies on Replaceability’ examines humanity’s self-design, from the self-portraits of Renaissance painters to virtual doubles in the dawning age of algorithms.
